BOGAC COLD SPRING: The pride of a quiet town

~ A Traveler's Guide ~

Crystal clear water, cool feeling, refreshing!

What an honor to start my blog by showing to you one of my town's pride.

During my childhood days, whenever we visit my grandparents part of my excitement was to be able to soak and play here.

A little bit of history. This spring is a significant part of the lives of Barobohanons. Before it has been improvised into becoming a tourist attraction by local government units, people came here not only to bond with their families but also to wash their laundry. Due to the fact that wells are quite impossible to use because of the type of the soil we have, this was the best way to do the chores.

Now that the government made this as tourism project, doing such chores is no more possible. Paths are now well-built, we now have cottages, boats for rent, life jackets and even life buoys.

Not only that this place serves as your typical spring, this is also a swimming ground of our athletes. Children at early age learn to swim here.

Since 1900's Barobo is continuously producing swimmers who have been making their way to "Palarong Pambansa" or Nationals then eventually being offered by scholarships after high school. Some of them even compete up to SEA Games.

When this was opened for tourism, people from neighboring cities come here. This becomes the place to celebrate birthdays, graduations or just any family affair. Vans, cars come and go. Kids are happy, adults are satisfied!

 WHAT TO EXPECT IN BOGAC

The water here is a combination of seawater and that from the ground, thus it is not that salty which I prefer the most than 100 percent seawater. So, swimming for longer duration here won't be a problem with your eyes. Yes your eyes 😄. That's my main issue when soaking myself with seawater for a long time, my eyes get sore as salt coming in.

On the other hand, derived from its name the water is definitely cold. So, when you are not into this temperature, dipping for just a bit is advised 😄. But it is heaven to those who wanted to feel refreshed by this cold water.

And since gaining good reputation to tourists and at the same time locals love to visit here repeatedly, the place is expected to have more people especially during weekends.

Barobohanons, the local people of this town, love to swim here at noon so if you prefer to have the place alone or with less people. I recommend that you'll come here around 5 or 6 in the morning, but be ready for a little shiver once in a while 😆.

 WHAT TO PREPARE!

Actually you don't need to prepare anything to enjoy the spring. It has no outfit requirement but you rarely see someone on their swimming attire, most are on their shirt and shorts.

You do need to pay an entrance fee to go inside but I don't think they are requiring a parking fee if you happen to have your ride. Amenities are listed separately in this post with their corresponding rates.

Going to Bogac Cold Spring is quite easy since it is located at the main Baranggay of the municipality of BAROBO.

Ride a bus with either Mangagoy or Tandag signboard then simply get off at Barobo Terminal.

🚩

  FROM DAVAO:

Ride a bus with signboad Butuan and get off at San Franz ( a.k.a. San Francisco), then transfer to a bus with either Managagoy or Tandag signboard and get off at Barobo Terminal.

🚩

  FROM MANGAGOY

Ride a bus with Butuan or Tandag signboard and get off at Barobo Terminal.

🚩

Ride a bus with Butuan or Mangagoy signboard and get off at Barobo Terminal.

🚩

  FROM BAROBO TERMINAL:

Wait for a tricycle or Bau-bau and ask the driver to take you to Bogac. Current fare is 10 pesos around $0.20 USD.

To know the exact fare during your visit here is to ask about it at the terminal like asking the food vendors around. I advise you to not ask directly to your driver because they might ask a far greater amount than it really is. Of course giving a tip is not discouraged, but not required 🙂.
